Researchers from the University of Aberdeen have been investigating whether having a gym partner leads to more regular visits to the gym. Research has found that there is a strong positive correlation among them. The connection was even stronger when the new partner was strongly focused on achieving good results. This is a first of its kind study which researches the benefits of having a fitness partner and assesses what should be the qualities of a good fitness partner. Dr Pamela Reichel from the Institute of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Aberdeen gathered the data whilst at the University of Zurich. Dr. Reichel and a team have asked half of the study participants to find a new fitness partner, and the other half to continue with their usual routine. The results show that the group that is assigned a new fitness partner has visited the gym more often.
